Seek ye within the mystery of the heart, for therein lies the eternal wisdom of the soul. /Thoth/
I have a confession to make: I am terrible at reading maps. My sense of direction is awful. I often find myself heading the wrong way, even in familiar places. I remember hearing an older episode of the Radiolab podcast called Lost and Found. They shared a story about a woman who spent her life getting lost and how our brains create maps of the world around us. After extensive research, she discovered that this might be because of an issue with the function of the hippocampus in her brain. My husband and I joke that I have a ‘hippocampus disability,’ as I am notorious for walking out of a building and heading the wrong way, even after having been there many times before.
Reflecting on life and its navigation, I realize that my weakness in map reading has pushed me to rely more on my intuition. Instead of meticulously planning every step, I’ve often trusted my gut feelings to guide me. This hasn’t always been the perfect approach, and I’ve made plenty of mistakes. Yet, when I consider the significant decisions in my life, I see a pattern where my intuition leads to positive outcomes.
One of my boldest decisions was moving from Boston to Hawai’i with my then-boyfriend (now husband), Tom, after just a year together. It felt like a leap into the unknown, but many signs and symbols from the universe guided me. My college roommate first planted the seed about Hawai’i, and I was skeptical when I first considered the idea. But when I shared the idea with Tom, we both got excited and started planning our move.
During a phase filled with fear and doubt, the universe reassured me through various messages and synchronicities. When I didn’t get the teaching position I was confident about, I took it as a sign. My experience in the student teaching classroom, where we studied volcanoes and engaged with a diverse group of second-language students, proved invaluable. Additionally, a children’s book author with visionary gifts gave me hope by sharing that she saw me getting a teaching position and having a happy career in Hawai’i.
These subtle and overt signs redirected my course and affirmed my intuitive choice. Although leaving behind friends, family, and my old self was challenging, something deep within me knew it was the right move. This journey, guided by intuition, transformed my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

How do we learn to listen to our hearts and trust our inner guidance?
Learning to listen to our hearts and trust our inner guidance begins with stillness and introspection. By slowing down and developing a practice of self-reflection, meditation, and contemplation, we can tune into our magnetic hearts and the wisdom of our bodies. Our hearts connect us to the infinite, and our bodies respond to our feelings and can guide us if we pay attention. Strengthening our heart and mind coherence helps us access and activate our intuition. As we develop and nurture our relationships with ourselves and our higher selves we learn to trust our inner guidance. Like in my experience of relocating, it may also entail stepping outside our comfort zone, taking risks, and observing where they lead.
To navigate our lives, we need our intuitive hearts. Inspiration and wisdom surround us, but we must first cultivate awareness. The Universe communicates with us constantly, but amidst the noise of daily life, we require peace and stillness to hear it. Reflecting on our experiences, investigating our shadow patterns, healing our wounds, and knowing ourselves intimately are crucial steps.
We all journey through life without a map, making it vital to awaken, open our inner senses, and tap into our intuition. Many myths and stories illustrate how we entered this world through a “veil of forgetting,” like Plato’s myth of Er, where souls drank from the River Lethe to forget their past lives before reincarnation. This symbolizes our entry into this reality without a map, leaving us to navigate and live our lives to the best of our ability.
By embracing self-reflection and connecting with our heart and soul, we allow our inner guidance to lead us. This helps us make decisions aligned with our true selves, illuminating our path with the light of our souls.
Awakening
Awakening is the mystical process of remembering our true essence as divine beings of light. We inhabit a universe where light is the source of information and love is the foundation of creation. Before we can generate, we must become informed. We are souls first and humans second, intrinsically connected to everything. Realizing this allows us to awaken from our slumber and align our lives more closely with our soul’s purpose and blueprint.
We are here to connect, create, experience, and evolve—we are here for love. A deep connection with our soul enables us to fully expand into the light of who we are. Life is a multidimensional experience within a holographic reality. There is no linear path; if there were, we would merely rush toward our end. Instead, our paths are divinely interconnected, full of twists and turns that offer opportunities to explore, fail, triumph, and grow.
As infinite beings, our journey resembles a spiral more than a straight line. We are on a wheel of life, continuously learning, expanding our consciousness, and evolving. By trusting our intuition and following our hearts, we navigate this intricate and beautiful journey called life, ever-evolving into our true, divine selves.
Just as I have learned to navigate my life without a map by leaning into intuition and the signs around me, so can we all. We are equipped with an inner compass that, when heeded, guides us toward our highest potential. By embracing this compass, we can confidently move forward, knowing that even without a physical map, our hearts will lead us with light and wisdom.
